Sentinel Rock Horseback Adventures

Experience Escalante on Horseback

About Us

We created our trail riding business out of a love of horses and the unique, natural beauty of the area.

Our belief is the horse must respect us at all times but we must also respect the innate dignity of the horse.

“The wind of heaven is that which blows
between a horse's ears”
(Arabian proverb)

Our goal is offer an unbeatable, unique trail and horseback riding experience - by focusing on the enjoyment/welfare of both our guests and our horses.

We deliberately keep our trail rides small (private/semi-private) as we want our guests to have an unforgettable ride and share in what we are privileged to experience every day!

We are licensed and insured, and members of the local Chamber of Commerce and AQHA/IALHA. We are also proud to be affiliated with the Amangiri Resort and offer their guests private rides on property (see below). Our BLM Permit Number is #UT-030-09-06.

Our Horses:

All our horses are gentle and respectful, with the many hours’ experience on the trail
needed for a reliable trail horse.

They have also received extensive training so they
are responsive to riders and a pleasure to ride.

Their training continues when they are not
having fun on the trail.

All of our horses are trained in natural
horsemanship which we are happy to
share with our riders.

These are not your regular “Dude” horses ….

Please see our photo gallery for pictures of our horses.

Our horses love to perform tricks for our guests - for a treat! (provided).

We feed our horses high quality hay and supplements, and maintain a rigorous worming, vaccination/floating and farrier schedule to ensure they have the best health possible. Their nutrition is evident in their beautiful coats, mane/tail, feet and behavior.

Our Guides/Trainers:

Our friendly guides have outstanding natural horsemanship skills and trail experience. They are happy to share information and stories about the local area for your enjoyment. They are also certified in first aid and CPR.

Our trainers spend time daily with the horses giving them the care, training and attention they need. This builds trust and confidence by our horses for our trainers and riders.

We continue our horses’ training both on the ground and under saddle, developing their softness and lightness to human aids. We are also training some of our horses in specialist areas such as liberty (ground play with no physical tie to horse), bridleless riding (no bridle/reins) and dressage (horse ballet), demonstrating the skills of both horse and trainer, and the partnership between them.

We are also pleased to announce that we are now offering the opportunity to learn new horsemanship skills or take a riding lesson at our Ranch. Please contact us for details.

Our Partners:

We are proud to maintain relationships with the following companies and organizations;

We are very committed to our relationship with the Bureau of Land Management, specifically BLM Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. We encourage our guests to also visit the BLM Visitor Center in Big Water (see location map).

We are proud to be selected by the exclusive Amangiri Resort to provide their guests with private horseback rides, both on and off property. We encourage you to visit their website for more information about this amazing property.

We use the highest quality tack and equipment supplied by our friends at Burns Saddlery, one of the oldest saddle makers today, and the oldest, continuous family-owned western business having celebrated its 110th year of business in Salina, Utah.

Russell Brindley (owner and farmer) provides us with truly outstanding hay with just the right mix of grass and alfalfa.

Our veterinarian is Dr Moe Bracken and our farrier is Wes Sharp (AFA Certified Journeyman Farrier), both of whom do an amazing job for us and help us keep our horses healthy and comfortable.
